Class 1: Hulusi ( for students from K), level I
(click 1, 2 to enjoy 2 music pieces of Hulusi in mp3 format)

The Hulusi or cucurbit flute is a free reed wind instrument from China. It is held vertically and has three bamboo pipes which pass through a gourd wind chest; the center pipe has finger holes and the outer two are typically drone pipes. The Hulusi was originally used primarily in Yunnan province by the Dai and other non-Han ethnic groups but is now played throughout China and it has in recent years been adopted by European composers and performers. The Hulusi has a very pure, clarinet-like sound.
Hulusi is easy to learn and fun to play, either solo, duet or with ensemble. Together with Electronic Musical Instruments, it can produce very impressive sound effects.
